What is Grief counselling?

Grief is a natural response, but it can feel overwhelming, confusing, or isolating.

Counselling provides a space to:

  • Talk openly about your loss
  • Process complex emotions
  • Adjust to life without what (or who) you lost

Adult Low-Cost Individual Counselling

Emotions can sometimes feel like too much to carry. Whether you’re struggling with grief, work-related stress, relationship changes, personal challenges, or just feeling lost, therapy is here to guide you toward emotional balance and strength. Please book an initial consultation appointment to begin the process.

Making Sense of Your Emotions

Grief isn't just sadness. It can include:

  • Anger
  • Guilt
  • Numbness
  • Anxiety
  • Even relief (which can feel confusing)

A therapist helps normalize these reactions so you don’t feel like something is “wrong” with you.

Understanding the Grieving Process

You might hear about models like the Kübler-Ross stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance)

But in counselling, it’s emphasized that:

  • Grief is not linear
  • You don’t go through neat “stages”
  • Everyone’s experience is different

Grief counselling doesn’t take the pain away

It helps you:

  • Carry it differently
  • Understand it
  • Slowly rebuild around it

Frequently Asked Questions

There’s no “correct timeline” for grief.

  • Short-term: support through acute grief
  • Longer-term: if grief feels “stuck” or overwhelming

Each person has a different need in counselling. There is no set number of sessions, as each grief journey is unique.

Every therapeutic journey is unique and tailored to you individually. Some of the main benefits include: a safe and private environment to talk without fear of judgment, personalized support adapted to your needs, an increase in self-understanding, improved coping skills for managing emotions, stronger relationships, accountability and consistency in finding change.

Therapy is not perfect because therapists are humans too. However, there are some common downsides noted to occur in therapy: it can be uncomfortable to talk about painful memories or patterns of shame, it takes time and is not a quick fix, financial cost can be a barrier, it can be hard to find the right therapeutic fit, progress isn't always linear or visible, effort is required outside of sessions, there is a risk of dependency on the therapist, and not all therapeutic approaches are effective for everyone. Therapy is a tool; it works best when there’s a good fit, realistic expectations, and a willingness to engage in the process.

Individual counselling sessions are $175 for a 60-minute session.
